About The Farm
Albert H. Schmitt Family Farms is a proud, multi-generational family farm with roots that run deep in Long Island’s history. For decades, Albie and Dottie Schmitt, who have been married for over 65 years, have worked side by side to build the thriving business you see today. Coming from long lines of farmers—Dottie’s Harbes family has been farming on Long Island for over a century, and the Schmitt family has been cultivating this land since 1853—their passion for farming has been passed down through generations.
Located at 6 Bagatelle Road in Dix Hills, the farm originally grew potatoes until the construction of the Long Island Expressway divided the land. Despite the pressures of development, the Schmitt family’s commitment to farming endured. What started with a small greenhouse has blossomed into a flourishing greenhouse operation filled with vibrant annuals and perennials.
As the farm has evolved with each new generation, so has the Schmitt family’s knowledge, dedication, and innovation. By combining time-honored traditions with modern growing methods, they continue to promote agricultural sustainability—delivering quality plants and inspiration from their family to yours.
